Selective Test or Treat - Acidizing
Requirement:
- Selective treating required in horizontal well to remove formation damage due to drilling operations
Solution:
- Run multi-set inflatable straddle packer (TAM-J, PW) and position as required for lowest zone to be matrix acidized
- Inflate packers & treat
- Release packers & move up hole to next desired treating interval
- Inflate and treat
- Repeat selective treating as desired & POOH
- Place well back on production

Canada:
Challenge:
- 6-¼” open hole horizontal well in a fractured carbonate, oil reservoir was producing 70 BFPD with 75% water cut.
Solution:
- Ran 5-½” OD inflatable straddle with 100’ spacing between packers on 2-7/8” tubing.
- Inflated straddle packers near toe of the lateral and performed matrix acid treatment using 15% HCl.
- Released packers, pulled up hole, re-set and treated new interval. A total of 49 selective treatments were achieved on a single trip in the well.
Value Added:
- Production rate increased to 500 BPD with 37% water cut. Resulting oil production increase of 300 BPD resulted in payout of less than 8 days.
