Straddle Test & Treat
Requirement:
- Screen/gravel pack plugged: Acid stimulation required
Solution:
- Run multi-set (TAM-J) straddle on coiled tubing or work string. (memory pressure gauges can be added)
- Selectively acidize desired screen sections of completion
- Retrieve straddle and test well

Trinidad:
Challenge:
- A gravel-packed oil well, offshore Trinidad had exhibited severe decline in production rate as a result of calcium carbonate scale buildup in the screen
- A near vertical well completed with a 3 ½” gravel-packed screen in a sandstone reservoir with known scale buildup problems with time and associated water production.
Solution:
- A 2-5/8" OD multi set inflatable straddle assembly was run on 1-3/4" coiled tubing and inflated inside the blank section of each 3-1/2" screen joint.
- 100 gallons/ft of 7-1/2% HCL acid was pumped at matrix rates to remove the scale.
- The straddle tool was reset across each of 12 screen joints and the acid treatment repeated.
Value Added:
- Well placed back on production with a 3 fold increase in total production rate.
