Selective Water Shut Off - Screened Completion

Requirement:

  • Lower screen section of gravel packers oil well completion producing excess water

Solution:
  • Run multi-set (TAM-J) straddle on coiled tubing or work string
  • Selectively inject water blockage chemicals into desired screen intervals
  • Retrieve straddle and test well

Trinidad:

Challenge:
  • A gravel packed oil well offshore Trinidad had exhibited increased water production rate from lower 60’ of screen.

Solution:
  • A 2-5/8” OD multi set inflatable straddle assembly was run on 1-¾” coiled tubing and inflated inside the blank section of each 3-1/2” screen joint.
  • Water blockage gels were pumped at matrix rates into the isolated lower screen joint.
  • The straddle tool was reset across the next screen and chemical injection achieved.

Value Added:
  • Well placed back on production with a reduction in water cut from 78% to 25%.
