Oman:
Challenge:
- A single lateral horizontal well in a carbonate reservoir in Oman was selectively tested and determined to be producing water from the lower 600’ (toe) of the well.
Solution:
- A 5-9/16” OD IBP was run and positioned 800’ from the end of 6-¼” lateral.
- A wiper plug was pumped in front of a cement slurry designed for inflation of the packer.
- Wiper plug was landed below the packer, pressure increased and packer was inflated with cement to insure a permanent solution.
- Additional pressure was applied to hydraulically release from the IBP and dump remaining cement above the packer.
Value Added:
- Well was placed back on production with reduced water production.
Note: Optional procedures can also include use of an inflatable cement retainer to allow squeezing cement below the tool.
