Multi-Lateral P&A
Requirement:
- Complete plug and abandonment of a multi lateral well to prevent future down hole cross flow between wells
Solution:
- Run an Inflatable Bridge Plug (IBP) and set in each leg
- Run an inflatable cement retainer and set above the IBP
- Squeeze cement interval between cement retainer and IBP

Qatar:
Challenge:
- Each leg of a 6-¼” open hole completed multi lateral well in Qatar required permanent plugging to assure elimination of cross flow within the reservoir.
Solution:
- A 5-9/16” OD IBP was run and set in leg #1 followed by an inflatable cement retainer set 700’ above the IBP.
- Thixotropic cement slurry was bullheaded into the interval between the packers, a wiper plug landed to remove hydrostatic from above and the work
string released from the cement retainer.
Value Added:
- The operation was repeated for leg #2 resulting in an effective plugging and elimination of potential cross flow between fracture swarms.
